Just in time for spring, Georgia Organics brings in a team of experts to teach the basics of growing food organically, composting, and choosing what to plant ? with a special focus on starting a community garden.
This event features two popular returning presenters:
"Daniel Parson: A seasoned and popular instructor, Daniel is the farmer at the certified organic Gaia Gardens in Decatur. He?ll provide a basic introduction to the philosophy and process of organic growing, including crop timing and rotation, soil building, and pest management. He?ll also share tips on what to plant, and when, that will help growers take advantage of Atlanta?s mild climate by planting a four-season garden.
Stephanie Van Parys: Stephanie, the Executive Director of Oakhurst Community Garden in Decatur, will provide suggestions on the varieties that are ideally suited to Atlanta?s soils and climate. With a preference for the plants that can look out for themselves, Stephanie shares her horticultural wisdom with an eye to the practical ? plants that produce with a minimum of maintenance and involvement. Stephanie will also provide tips on starting a new community garden."
